Fraxel Laser Treatments
Rejuvenate Your Face for a Younger Look
What is it?
Fraxel laser treatment (FLT) is a “fractional” treatment that intensively treats just a fraction of your skin at time, achieving more intense and long-lasting results. This new, state-of-the-art technology creates thousands of tiny, deep columns in your skin called “microthermal zones,” which heal faster than if the entire area is treated at one time.
What does it do?
FLT is effective for renewing skin that is damaged by age or sun. By creating microscopic “wounds” within the targeted area several layers deep, FLT triggers the body’s natural inflammation/healing process. It accelerates the production of collagen and new healthy skin cells. On average, three to five treatments, spaced about four weeks apart, deliver optimal results. Notable improvement is usually seen after two or three months.
What does it feel like?
While undergoing FLT, patients may experience a prickling sensation. A cooling device and topical anesthetic make the procedure more comfortable. After the treatment, you can expect your skin to look slightly sunburnt, but makeup can be applied immediately for a natural appearance. Your skin may look tanned for up to two weeks following your treatment. You may also experience some flaking of your skin, not unlike after a sunburn, as it exfoliates the dead tissue and replaces it with new cells. Use of a moisturizer can minimize this effect.
Common side effects include minimal swelling and redness that typically subsides within a day or two. Risk of infection or scarring is minimal. Following your FLT, you will need to avoid sun exposure and always wear a sunscreen of at least 30 SPF, applied periodically throughout the day.
Advantages:
FLT is highly effective while also being very gentle. Because it works underneath the skin, makeup can be applied immediately after the treatment enabling patients to immediately resume their normal activities.
